This timeline shows recent events from the current financial crisis (starting in 2008). These events are illustrated by streetart done by Banksy.
The first thing I did was sketch out a few layout ideas (as seen in the sketchbook pages below). Around the same time, I gathered images from Flickr groups that were dedicated to the recession (ie The Guardian Recession Monitor). I also looked at the news photo blog, The Big Picture. In addition, I tried to find images of recession-related art that I have come across, such as this image of a bull ramming into a man, a Banksy mural I saw on the way to work in NYC, and stickers I've also seen around New York. After choosing some images, I created digital mock-ups of the sketches I made previously.
During critiques, using only streetart by Banksy as a guiding idea for the timeline, was posited. This seemed like a good direction, so I pursued it. Ultimately, I selected both of the large Banksy rat murals that were done in NYC. For other images, I searched the official Banksy website as well as the Flickr pool dedicated to Banksy.
For the final layout, I wanted to gently bombard the viewer with images. So, I designed the timeline to focus on one prominent image, while two adjacent images were in the periphery.
